Forest School Key Stage 2 Tool Use

Year 3 and 4 used peelers, palm drills and trial and error to construct wooden creatures during forest school this week. They first gathered a range of resources, exploring the differences between seasoned (dry) wood, and green (fresh) wood. They selected their material and began shaping the wood; drilling holes for legs and neck and narrowing the ends of twigs to fit in the holes.

They had to experiment with different sizes, too big and it wouldn’t fit, too small and it would fall out. Eventually they all presented their finished creatures and found them places to live in the forest. Well done year 3-4 - you all worked sensibly and carefully to make final products.
