KS2 Forest School - Fire Skills

It was a cold forest school this week. Luckily, children were developing their knowledge of fire building.

This week they had to investigate different structures for a fire setting, such as a scrape, dug pit, log surround and brick surround. Then they constructed differently shaped fuel piles. Later they discussed how they might choose a particular structure in different weathers or settings to either allow more oxygen into their fire, or to stop the harsh wind from blowing out a gentle flame. They also considered how their surrounds might prevent their fire from spreading accidentally.

They had to work in teams to build their fire pit areas, and were very excited to be working in the laurel area. Unfortunately the shade cover meant that most photos came out very blurry, but a selection of less blurry ones have been included for you to see their hard work.
