♻️🌳 Rustic Revival: Upcycled Cupboards for Our Outdoor Classroom 🍂🪵

At Newbold School, sustainability is more than a buzzword — it's becoming part of the way we think, create, and care for our environment. Following the success of our Wonder Shed makeover, we’ve been inspired to keep reimagining what we already have, instead of throwing things away.

Our latest upcycling adventure began with some old plastic cupboards, long past their prime. The doors had fallen off, and they were destined for the landfill — until we had a better idea! With some creativity, teamwork, and a little chocolate-brown wood stain (the same shade we used on our shed), we gave these cupboards a brand-new purpose.

With a fresh coat of paint, the plastic took on the appearance of rustic wood. You’d never guess what they once were! We transformed them into sturdy tables and storage units for our outdoor classroom, blending beautifully with the natural surroundings. Their earthy tone adds a warm, woodland charm — and they’re completely weather-friendly too.

While clearing out the shed, we also uncovered a hidden treasure: a set of unused brown chairs, just waiting to be put to good use. Add in a few logs for seating, and our outdoor space is now truly taking shape.

The children are going to love this new space — a place to learn, play, and connect with nature.

We’re now working on developing a full outdoor curriculum, so our pupils can spend more time outside, learning through experience in the fresh air. It’s part of our vision to create more hands-on, meaningful learning moments that support well-being, creativity, and environmental stewardship.

This is just the beginning, and we’re excited for what’s to come. Stay tuned as our outdoor classroom continues to grow!
