An Amazing Day Exploring the River Pang  πŸ’¦

Yesterday was an absolutely wonderful day for our geography field trip — we spent it exploring the beautiful River Pang! The sunshine, fresh air, and excitement of outdoor learning made it a truly memorable experience for everyone.

Our first task was to investigate the width and depth of the river at two different spots. Working carefully with our measuring tapes, metre sticks, and plenty of teamwork, we gathered data that will help us map the shape of the river bed. It was fascinating to discover that the river had a lovely U-shaped channel, but as we moved further upstream, it became noticeably shallower and narrower. This really helped us see how rivers change along their course.

Next, we carried out an experiment to measure the flow speed of the water. Using bright oranges as our “floaters,” we timed how long each one took to travel between two marker poles. It was great fun cheering on our oranges as they bobbed along — and even more exciting when we compared our results to see how the current changed between different parts of the river!

To finish our day, we walked to a peaceful, picturesque spot where the river curved gracefully in a perfect meander. Sitting quietly with our sketchbooks, we took time to draw what we saw, capturing the gentle bends and calm reflections of the water. It was a lovely, calm way to end our busy day of exploration.

Everyone agreed that our trip to the River Pang was not only fun but also a fantastic opportunity to see our geography learning come to life. We can’t wait to use our data to create detailed maps and river profiles back in class!
