Weaving, whittling and drilling to make a home for nature EYFS

Today we wanted to make a home for nature. We added a bug house to the campsite area.

The children led the walk and decided which way to go.

We arrived at Dragon's Den and the water had all dried up. The children knew it was because we had recently had lots of hot and dry weather. There was no muddy river to splash in.

Our campsite was all set up. We had a dry place to sit.

We made cakes with mud and sticks.

We found long and bendy woodland materials and weaved them into the school fence.

We whittled with our peelers.

We drilled holes in the dead wood to make a bug hotel.

We investigated the pond and found pond weed.

We learnt how to whittle away from us.

Drilling was hard work.

We loved weaving the fence.

Mud pie!

Even the teachers loved having a go.

We worked as a team.
