Welcome our Forest School Blog We are all very excited to be embarking on this new school venture and we can't wait to introduce the Forest School ethos into our outdoor learning programme. Good Leadership Knowledge It is important that a Forest School Leader is knowledgeable about woodland management techniques and can educate others about the importance of the maintenance of the woodland. A Forest School Leader has to be able to present this knowledge in a way that all ages can access. It is also the Forest School leader’s responsibility to provide opportunities, that allow participants to contribute to the continued health of the woodland. By doing this, they ensure that all participants feel that they have made a valuable contribution with regards to the health of the woodland. Why is the identification of flora and fauna vitally important for a forest school leader? Health and Safety The forest school leader has responsibility for the health and safety of all forest school participants. One area of health and safety that needs to be considered carefully is the avoidance of potentially poisonous plants and fungi. There are many poisonous plants and fungi that are native to our British woodlands. These plants can easily be picked and ingested, leading to serious health complications. Therefore, it is vitally important for a forest school leader to be able to identify these potentially harmful species and educate others about the potential risk from touching or ingesting them.
