π Celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday
This weekend, people across the country are celebrating a very special milestone ππΏ
We are marking the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough ππ±, whose incredible work has inspired generations to care for our planet. Long before environmental care became widely discussed, he helped raise awareness about protecting Earth and all living things ππ
As a school, we understand stewardship from a spiritual perspective, but we are also grateful to anyone who encourages care and respect for the world we share πΏ✨
π Earth is a beautiful creation, and we all have a part to play in looking after it.
π Weekend Challenge:
Can you do one thing each day to help protect the planet?
Maybe try walking instead of driving πΆ♀️πΆ♂️, recycling more ♻️, or reducing waste π±
π³ Forest School Adventures
Forest School took us on a shape adventure this week! πΊπ‘⬛
Children didn’t just spot shapes in nature — they used tablets π± to photograph them too! What brilliant explorers! πΏπΈ
π» Gardening & Outdoor Learning
Year 1 and Year 2 have been busy in the school garden planting sunflower and sweet pea plants π»πΈ
They carefully studied roots, watered their plants, and learned exactly what plants need to grow strong and healthy π±π§
To protect their hard work, they created a brilliant scarecrow — the Gruffalcrow π¦⬛πΎ — designed to keep those cheeky squirrels away!
In Forest School, children also enjoyed safe whittling πͺπ³ using potato peelers, discovering beautiful patterns hidden in wood bark. Nature is full of surprises! ✨
π₯ Nature Documentaries
To celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s birthday, children created their very own nature documentaries π¬πΏ
They researched animals π π¦, wrote scripts ✍️, and filmed their own clips — complete with some wonderfully wobbly camerawork ππΉ
We also loved seeing a thoughtful birthday card sent earlier in the week π— a lovely gesture of appreciation for someone who has inspired so many.
π° Young Journalists in Action!
Another exciting highlight this week was a creative writing project involving a very mysterious leprechaun sighting in the school grounds ππ
Children wrote and presented news reports using both formal and informal language — and absolutely shone as reporters and presenters π€π️
We might just have some future journalists in the making! π
π A Wonderful Week
From French cafΓ©s to forest adventures, gardening, science, storytelling and celebration — it’s been a truly brilliant week at Newbold School π
